Customer Rating: Summary: The Glorious South West Comment: Having grown up in Cornwall I thought I knew the southwest inside out, but thanks to Alastair Sawday and his intrepid team I have discovered corners of this ancient part of our country I never knew existed. And more, wonderful people in glorious houses who offer the sort of hospitality and accommodation that kicks the corporate kind into the distance. The pubs and Inns section also leads one to more charming hosteleries to quaff and chat before tucking into delicious food. Wish I'd found these guides years ago, Italy with Sawday next!
Customer Rating: Summary: Sawday's Special Places to Stay: Devon and Cornwall Comment: Special places to stay - a bold statement, delivered in spades by the latest in the consistently excellent Sawday guides. 170 plus places - B&Bs, hotels, inns, some self-catering - each independently inspected by the Sawday team and special in some way.
I like this book. It oozes quality. As well as the collection of hugely tempting places to stay, it offers suggestions for local walks and days out with the kids, restaurants, pubs, and cream teas (of course). It helpfully lists places with good wheelchair and wifi access. It also notes those within 2 miles of the National Cycle Network - the ideal book for pocket, glovebox or saddlebag.
Sawday guides have always come up trumps for us whether in the UK or further afield. We've stayed in some wonderful places courtesy of the guides - some beautiful, some quirky, all special. This book is a cracker.
Customer Rating: Summary: Alastair Sawday's Devon and Cornwall Comment: Another winner from Alastair Sawday. This time a pocket sized book focusing on a particular area. Always reliable in his selction of B&Bs , in this edition Sawday has added places to visit, farmers' markets, and interesting walks. A little gem.
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't leave home without it! Comment: Like all the other Alistair Sawday books I have, this one really doesn't disappoint, and I love the fact that it is pocket sized. I think "mini guides" like this for an area are perfect. If you are like me - love Devon / Cornwall and enjoy a mixture of B&B, Luxury Hotel and self catering houses - then this is the perfect companion.
In my opinion it really has the best that this beautiful area of England can offer...in fact, having only got this book a few days ago, we have already used it and booked our next holiday.
If you are thinking of buying this book I would really recommend that you take advantage of one of the Amazon offers and buy a couple of these guides together...I guarantee that Alistair Sawday will have the perfect get away for you.
Overall: 5 Star - buy it and as soon as the postman puts it through the letterbox your book will be full of bookmarks of all the "I really must stay there" places.
Customer Rating: Summary: No continuous coastline. Comment: A very useful little guide, packed with information. It is a pity the maps do not overlap. Apart from Truro which is shown on 2 consecutive pages, the other major towns like Plymouth and Exeter are not. I find this a very annoying feature. Otherwise, cannot fault it.
