Summary: A wonderful little book for a wonderful walk
Comment: You don't really need a guide or a map - The Ridgeway is so well signposted - but this little book helps. Especially in planning your walk. We walked from West to East which is best because the prevailing wind comes from behind. The part from Vale of the White Horse towards the East is definitely the best - walking along the ridges with great views in all directions. We covered up to 11 miles a day, and took 2 cars - one parked at the end of our day's walk, and the other at the start. That way we remained flexible and had more choise of accommodation. I recommend both the walk (regardless of fitness) and this book. Have a great time!

Summary: Take it with you and enjoy the walk
Comment: A comprehensive and indispensible guide to this ancient 85-mile track. Contains the required OS maps with the route clearly marked and described, interpersed with interesting historical and geographic snippets. The walk itself is excellent and well worth doing. The western section from Overton to Goring is generally easy hill-top walking on broad paths, though badly rutted in parts. The eastern section, say from Wallingford to Ivinghoe, meanders through the Chiltern Hills and is more varied with short hills to go up and down, and therefore more strenuous.
