Customer Rating: Summary: Written in 1998 Comment: Written in 1998 - and it shows ! A lot of new trails have been purpose-built in Scotland in the last 5 years and obviously none of these appear in the book. Some of the routes in the book are too easy to be considered "MTB" routes, and some are far too short to be of any interest. That said it's well written, contains useful tips and is a reasonable starting point for exploring off the beaten track.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best booK I've found on MB trails but still very limited. Comment: The book is well written and very clear when describing locations and routes. The key of difficulty/route characteristics is especially useful for determining which trails are worth the effort if you are looking for more technically challenging routes as many of the trails appear to be suitable for family outings. Harry provides an enjoyable as well as informative read and provides many usefull tips and facts about access rights etc. However, the location map of trails at the front of the book looks disapointingly bare and it appears that only established, sign-posted trails are detailed in this book - which explains why there are only 101 of them. Although this book is very good for what it is ( and I have to say that it totally saved my recent holidays when I had initially thought that I wouldn't find a decent MB guide book), it seems that the only way to learn about the many other trails available to mountain bikers is to hang out with an well experienced friend and/or surf the net constantly and scrutinise OS maps.
Customer Rating: Summary: A detailed book for enthusiasts. Comment: Don't take this book on the trail, photocopy pages, it's a hardback. Well written, maps and pictures included. Also a unique trail gauge, telling you how difficult the ride is. My favorite? Ride around Arran. David g.
