Customer Rating: Summary: Pride Of The North East Comment: This is a fantastic book. Very, very readable & intensly addictive. Having watched the TV series with Ant & Dec (which was enjoyable, if a bit lacking in depth at times), I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. From the venerable Bede to the Romans, the Border Reivers & the incursions of the Scots, from commerce on the river to the rise & decline of the pits & the yards, it is a fast moving but fascinating narrative.
A good deal of Newcastle & Tyneside's civic "heroes" are here; Grainger, Stephenson, Buddle,Dobson et al & some less heroic (T.Dan Smith for example)- there's an array of famous North East names to be found within the pages of this book, describing their achievements & their historical context & importance.
This book is marvellous - it brings to life so much of our local history & describes how Tyneside has developed over the centuries.
If you love Tyneside & its history, you'll love this book.
