Anyone who has visited Provence knows that it is more than a place of spectacular beauty; it is also a way of life. Attracting travelers from across the globe, Provence offers the visitor peace and tranquility in the striking beauty of landscapes ablaze with color: from ocher hills and lavender fields, to stark cliffs and swaying olive trees. Gerard Sioen, an internationally recognized photographer and himself an inhabitant of Provence, takes the reader on a personal photographical tour of Provence's most celebrated sights. He showcases the region's wealth of architectural styles—from contemporary villas to village farmhouses.
Sioen plays hide-and-seek with the native mountain goats, sheep, and horses, and immortalizes an apricot sunset above a terracotta hilltop town. Clusters of men try their luck at petanques on the village square, where a few hours earlier a soap maker was offering her wares at the outdoor market.
This stunning array of 500 photographs revels in all the charm of this magnificent and renowned travel destination.

Customer Rating: Summary: Provence 500 photos Comment: I purchased this book with the hope that it would provide inspiriation for painting .. and YES it did. On every page is a gorgeous photo of Provence and the surrounding areas. Wonderful scenic vistas , vignettes of life in France. This would make a splendid coffee table book as well as the inspiration to paint or visit the beautiful countryside.
Well worth the price. A beautiful picture book indeed.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good pictures (not great) / bad binding - falls apart. Comment: I bought this book brand new from Amazon because I wanted to see some nice pictures of the French hillsides and landscapes. The pictures are good (not great), but as soon as I started flipping through the pages, I noticed that they started to come off the spine like those cheapo postcard books you get at the swapmeet or tourist traps.
Don't waste your money on this book (like I did). I bought mine brand new, but because they used an inexpensive binding method, it'll always fall apart as soon as you open it wide to look at what you think are supposed to be 'great' pictures of Provence. The pictures are just OK - in my opinion. It's a small book, so it doesn't really do justice to those pictures (if they were really that great in the first place).
Customer Rating: Summary: Gorgeous Photography! Comment: This is a great book for someone who loves Provence or who's thinking of visiting Provence or for someone who appreciates good photography. The book is packed with gorgeous photos. It reminds me of another similar great book "Paris: 500 Photos". I highly recommend it!
