The 8th edition of the Hidden Places of Devon has been completely redesigned to include a striking new cover and new page layouts. In addition, although you will still find details of places of interest and entries of places to stay, eat and drink included under each village or town, these are now cross-referenced to more detailed information contained in a separate, easy-to-use section at the back of the book. This beautifully illustrated guide explores Devon in a relaxed narrative style by guiding the reader to some of the established visitor attractions but also focusing on the more secluded and less well-known places of interest and places to stay, eat and drink. Devon is dotted with delightful little towns, quaint stone villages and eye-catching landscapes. Its lush green rolling hills are intersected with bright fresh streams and wooded valleys and it is also home to the National Parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor, two areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Customer Rating: Summary: Nice to have, but.... Comment: Getting ready for our massive trip to Devon & Cornwall last fall, my wife & I bought just about every travel book on the subjects we could get our hands on. We had high hopes for this one. It details lots of little pubs and restaurants in the area, along with the "usual" sites that you'll find in every book.
Bottom line- the pubs in here were too rich for our blood- we are more into the sawdust and woodsmoke 'locals only' kind of place, not the wealthy Londoner on holiday kind of place. But, if that's your cup of tea, this book provides reasonable detail and a fair amount of information. I'd recommend, however, Lonely Planet, for anyone with a reasonable budget. And by reasonable, I mean less than $80 for supper.
