Editorial Reviews:

This is the 7th edition of the massively popular The Hidden Places of Devon which is one of the Hidden Places Series best selling titles.

The book is printed in full color and includes detailed directional maps, eye-catching photographs and is packed with places to eat, drink and stay.

The stunning county of Devon is a region blessed with beauty and is dotted with delightful little towns, quaint stone villages and eye-catching landscapes. Lush green rolling hills are intersected with bright fresh streams and wooded valleys; Devon is also home to the National Parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor (which it shares with Somerset), two areas of outstanding natural beauty. Both parks have spectacular scenery that consist of bleak uplands and isolated moorland that stretch out towards a rugged coastline.

The book is packed with information covering the more secluded and little known venues for food, drink, accommodation and places of interest as well as the more enduring attractions of the region. The new edition includes an attractive cover that incorporates an eye-catching photograph of Erme Estuary on the south coast.

Summary: Nice to have, but....
Comment: Getting ready for our massive trip to Devon & Cornwall last fall, my wife & I bought just about every travel book on the subjects we could get our hands on. We had high hopes for this one. It details lots of little pubs and restaurants in the area, along with the "usual" sites that you'll find in every book.
Bottom line- the pubs in here were too rich for our blood- we are more into the sawdust and woodsmoke 'locals only' kind of place, not the wealthy Londoner on holiday kind of place. But, if that's your cup of tea, this book provides reasonable detail and a fair amount of information. I'd recommend, however, Lonely Planet, for anyone with a reasonable budget. And by reasonable, I mean less than $80 for supper.
