Following on from the success of The History of Wales this new Pocket Guide is primarily intended for the general reader who wants to know more about the traditional customs of Wales. An introductory chapter discusses the historical setting of the customs, the social forces which influenced their development and their study by antiquarians and historians from the eighteenth century on. The customs themselves are discussed in terms of those traditions centred on the hearth, farming, community life and the parish church, with a final chapter reviewing the changes brought about by nonconformity and industrialization.
