For each district there is a double-page of addresses (restaurants — listed in ascending order of price — cafés, bars, music venues and stores) followed by a fold-out map for the relevant area with the essential places to see (indicated on the map by a star *). These places are by no means all that Florence has to offer but to us they are unmissable. The grid-referencing system (A B2) makes it easy for you to pinpoint addresses quickly on the map.

Summary: Do Not Visit Florence Without This Map
Comment: This map was an enourmous help on my trip to Florence. The pages fold out into large maps of each portion of the city. The recommended things to see are spot on and the descriptions give a great idea of what you are in store for. I used this so much that I found myself reaching for it when I was looking for my Italian phrase book (this is not a language guide). I highly recommend it.
Also, the map does not go much further south than Porta Romana, so if you are staying south of the city I recommend grabbing a cheap paper map that covers the south end of the city.
One thing worth noting is that I could not find some of the recommended stores. I assume they have moved or closed their doors since this was published.

Comment: We love the Knopf Mapguides. We used this one for our 10 days in Florence and the ones For Rome and Venice on other visits. They fit in your hip pack or purse and are easy to read and follow. We wont travel without them!

Best travel guide bar none. Fits your pocket or small purse.. Visually great looking.There are actual pictures .... All high recommended hotels different prices..Great maps.. hard to get lost even in Venice. Great recommends for food I am a shopper.. Absolutely great & unusual shops ..None of the bad tourist gear only the styling gear.. .I had three guides to Florence this is the one we used every day...Do not go anywhere without this guide if there is one available for the destination Im will be traveling to....

Summary: Good detailed maps & varied recommendations; missing some key info
Comment: I like the fold out maps and the variety of info organized by neighborhood. I've used this brand of guide for London as well and thought it really worked. The only big complaint I have is that they do not list prices/admissions for the attractions, which can lead to big surprises, especially in the major Italian art cities.

Summary: Best City Map Series on the Market - Bar None
Comment: I've used Knopf Mapguides all over the world and find them to be the single best way to orient and explore a major city. Their pocket sized format and clear, fold out maps make them perfect for navigating a city without looking like a clueless tourist unfolding a huge map on a streetcorner. The restaurant and attraction recommendations are excellent. If you buy only one guide to vist one of the world's major cities, get one of these.
